The 1975 Cartoons for the 2024 Heritage Cubs

Today I have the 16 Cubs Heritage cartoon along with the original cartoon from the 1975 set.  You can see how the 1975 cartoon and text match up while that isn't always the case with the Heritage cards.

Both cartoons deal with an NL champ, hitting or home runs

The trade list makes sense in the 1975, but not at all for PCA's card.

Brothers drawn for brothers text...makes sense (for once!)

The cartoon player is shown at third base, because Brooks Robinson was a third baseman.  It doesn't fit for Billy Williams, a left fielder.

Award winners get a big trophy.

The swish is for a player's name.  I still don't know why that cartoon was used on Wesneski's card.

The binoculars are for finding a homer hit a long way.  For the Heritage card, Topps said, "Well it has something to do with home runs, and the text on Morel's card talks about home runs, so lets use it."

And what is the logic for using a catcher getting smacked in the stomach by a ball when talking about Lee Smith??

The original talks about Lefty Grove, but since Koufax was a lefty, close enough.  Also, look a who's card has the original - Dusty Baker.

Now we know why the pitcher is holding a book - It's Schoolboy Rowe.  Of course, the book has nothing to do with the text in either of the Heritage cards.  I bet the person making the Heritage cards didn't even notice it.

The four stars are for four hits, and have no connection at all to the three Japanese players in the Heritage text.

The five players = five brothers, not 13 Braves.

They should have used this cartoon on the Rucker card and just gotten rid of the question mark.  But the question mark doesn't really make sense on the Taillon card.

A little photoshopping on the Wisdom card would have made sense.  Remove the 12 and replace it with .353.
