Each year on April 25 a story will pop up somewhere that recounts how Rick Monday saved the American flag from Dodger Stadium protesters in 1976. I wrote a post about it on the 40th anniversary.
One of the articles I saw this year included the above picture. It was taken at Wrigley Field a few weeks later and Monday is holding the flag that he saved. The first thing that popped into my mind is "Why didn't Topps use this on his 1977 card?"

The MLB Network had a very nice segment about this on their "Quick Pitch" highlights program a few days ago. That incident happened in 1976 and the Dodgers made a great move by trading for him the following season. He put in eight great seasons for the Dodgers and is now the Dodgers color commentator on the radio broadcasts.
