Topps went almost half a year without a Cubs player in the Living Set before adding Marcus Stroman in early May. Just two weeks later another Cub was added.
I'm guessing that Fergie was included at this time because the Cubs unveiled a statue of him at Wrigley Field the same week. Topps was riding the wave of Fergie-mania. It worked for Topps because the card's print run was 2,589 and that was 900 better than Stroman's card.
I like that the artist used a picture of early 1970's Fergie. That is the time period has was dominate with the Cubs. Too often Topps has used pictures of 1980s Fergie, from his second stint with the Cubs. He was just a shadow of himself by then and those pictures aren't the "real" Jenkins in my mind.
There have now been 18 Cubs in the Living Set.
