I guess we know who's going to play the lead in The Curt Simmons Story (a Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation that will touch your soul....really hard)!
R. Lee Ermey had some great lines in Full Metal Jacket that I can recite in my sleep. What a great role he had, and he wasn't even the guy cast for it in the first place.
By the way, he also made a quick appearance as a helicopter pilot in Apocalypse Now. You really have to look to see him, though.
I can see Simmons at training camp yelling at the rookies..."From now on the first and last words out of your filthy sewers will be 'Sir.' Do you maggots understand me?"
By the way...as a former Marine, I have the entire monologue of GySgt Hartman's opening speech from Full Metal Jacket devoted to memory.
Ermey, not Emery.

I always though he looked like 1950s/1960s Philadelphia radio personality (and Atlantic City's Steel Pier dance show host) Ed Hurst.
