I thought I'd finish up this feature by putting all of the Cubs cards from all the Topps years together in one convenient location.
Behold....63 years worth of Topps Cubs cards and baseball futility!! For what its worth, the very last card, Randy Well's 2012, seems to sum it up best.
I feel a kinship since I have done the same rest with the Mariners but that's only 36 years of Topps. I still need a few of the other makers but I'm getting there. Very impressive work sir!
They sold floating head team pictures at Wrigley Field. I think Topps just used the souvenir photos. If you look at the 1971 team pic, it is vertical with the cubs logo and the year 1970. On the 1974 card Topps doesn't even bother to crop the image to fit the card.
I'm a south side boy but I gotta admit - that looks really cool. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteVery cool indeed, especially ending with that Randy Wells. Says it all right there.

ReplyDeleteAnyone know why the Cubs used floating heads on pretty much all their team cards, while every other team used a full team photo?
ReplyDeleteI would like to believe they are trying to ward off the curse. It hasn't worked for a while.
