Eighties Alphabetically - Baseball's All Time Greats

We have another set made up of former players, though not all are in the Hall of Fame.  The maker of 1987 Baseball's All-Time Greats is Hygrade, though you don't find their name on the cards or the packaging.

The complete set has 106 players according to the TCDB while Beckett lists the total at 109 and the Standard Catalog shows 107.

The cards came in two different series of 50 cards.

I cross-referenced the 100 cards on the two package checklists with the 106 players on TCDB's list.  The six extra players are Alvin Dark, Dizzy Dean, Don Larsen, Honus Wagner, Billy Williams, and Maury Wills.  Where their cards came from is a mystery.  The packaging does say "Players may differ slightly from the list" so maybe there were three extras in each series.

There is neither a number or team designation on the cards.  The five players in my Cubs set are all wearing a Cubs uniform.

  1. I think there was a printing where the cap insignias were shown, and they had to reprint them with the insignias cropped out.

  2. I'd really like to get those two sealed blister packs someday. Do you own the two shown here?
