2013 Topps Chrome came out just about two weeks ago. All I needed from this 220 card set were the Cubs cards--no complete set from this one for me. Topps made it real easy for me to get the Cubs, since there were only three on the checklist.
This is the second year in a row that only three Cubs made the set. And also for the second year in a row, one of the three has no business being included.
Last year, this guy,
Adrian Cardenas, was included. Who is that, you may say.
Me too. He played in 45 games for the '12 Cubs and hit .183. It was AAA Iowa for him this year. I doubt he'll ever be back in Wrigley, unless he buys a ticket.
And the head scratcher in this year's set?
Kyuji Fujikawa, Theo's mound version of Koskue Fukudome. And what did the Cubs get for the $4.5 million spent on the reliever? 12 games, one win, one loss, a 5.25 ERA, and a blown out arm. And he's got two more years and $11 million left on his contract. Ouch!
The other two Cubs in the set were...
....the two who are the crumbling cornerstones to a Cubs dynasty.
I hope the new manager can turn them around.
