Last week Tuesday the Cubs called up reliever Anthony Kay from Iowa. He pitched in the game that same day, and is the 38th player to get into a game for the Cubs this year.
Kay was picked up off of the Blue Jays scrap heap last December. He was DFA'ed a month later as the Cubs needed a spot on the 40 man roster. No other team claimed him so the Cubs kept him and he was outrighted to Iowa. He had an ERA of 4.50 in 23 games with the I-Cubs, and that somehow earned him a promotion to the majors.
He's done a decent job in the few games he worked since his call-up. We'll see if he is able to keep that up. The Cubs need a decent lefty arm in the bullpen. Maybe Kay will be that guy.
