Comparing the Main Brands - 1993

Year - 1993

Main Brands -  Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Score, Upper Deck

Number of Players Included Among All the Sets: 43

Players Included in Every Set:  17

As we roll through the junk wax era, the number of different players is going up.  Rookie cards seem to be the reason for the bump.  Companies were catering to the collectors who wanted to snap up blocks of cards of the next Mickey Mantle.  Those speculators didn't end up with college funds, they ended up with kindling for the fireplace.

  1. I don't know how I never noticed that Topps and UD used the same photo for Rick Wilkins card. I guess I didn't know that was even an option.

    1. Same thing happened with Rod Carew's 1982 Topps In Action and Fleer. Some enterprising photographer sells the same photo twice.

The Fleer and Score Andre Dawsons almost look like the same photo, too, but they aren't. Cue Spider-Man meme of these cards pointing at each other.

  2. First time seeing a lot of these cards. Having them spread out in the panel the way you do shows how eerily similar the cards are. Jim Bullinger is a perfect example.

1993 should be called minimal design.

None of these sets stand out but I would probably take Score because they used the same design for Football and Hockey
