The eighth wave of 2020 Total has arrived and it included four Cubs. I was able to get three of the four from my usual Ebay Total source. That was odd because the seller usually has multiple copies of the cards available. I went to a couple of other sellers and they too, had three of the four Cubs. In fact, not a single card of the missing player was to be found anywhere. It was very odd.
I was eventually able to find the missing card, but I had to pay four times the usual amount. Right now just one card is listed on Ebay and it will cost you $30. Take a look at the four and see if you can guess who has the rare and valuable card.
The four wave eight Cubs are an All-Star and three non-descript pitchers. Logic would say that the rare card should be Contreras. Logic loses.
Casey Sadler is the overpriced player and I have no idea why. He's pitched with five different teams over five seasons. He was with the Cubs for 10 games, posted an ERA of 5.79, and was released in early September. The Mariners picked him up and he made seven appearance with them.
Despite playing over five different seasons, this Total card is the first to show him as a major leaguer. Maybe he or his family picked up all the cards.
I like you hypothesis about him and/or his family picking up the cards. Very plausible.
