2024 Cubs #39-40

On Tuesday two more Cubs made their 2024 debut.  In fact, for both is was also their MLB debut.  If you look closely you can see the MLB debut patch just below the walking bear on their right shoulder.

Porter Hodge had an amazing debut.  He pitched the ninth inning with the Cubs losing 9-2 so it was a very low pressure situation, perfect for a guy making his debut.  Hodge didn't seem to show any nervousness as he struck out the side on just ten pitches.  Not to shabby to almost throw an immaculate inning in your big league debut.

Luis Vazquez also entered the game in the ninth inning, playing shortstop.  He had no chances, as Hodge was mowing down the Braves with Ks.  Leading off the bottom of the ninth for the Cubs, he struck out.

Were now at an even 40 players for the 2024 Cubs.

  1. I didn't know there was an MLB debut patch. I'm assuming it stays there for the whole season? Or maybe it's just until they make their debut and then they are given the jersey as a memento? I hope it's the latter.

    1. I believe that it is just worn for their first game. Then the patch comes off and, depending on the player, is put on a card and sold. I know Topps did that for the Oriole's Jackson Holliday.
