Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 21,763 Cubs cards from 316 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1976 Isalys Bill Madlock  I never noticed this before--- this picture seems to be from his Rangers days.  His collar has two stripes and the Cubs never wore anything with two stripes while he was with the team while the Rangers top had a red and blue stripe.

1980s: 1981 Coke #11 Mike Tyson  I swear that the RNG really did pick this card...one that was featured in yesterday's Eighties Alphabetically post.  And Mike Tyson was really bad with the Cubs. He hit just .185 in 1981.

1990s: 1997 Select #33 Ryne Sandberg  The RNG rebounds nicely with a real second baseman this time.

2000s: 2001 Topps #248 Rick Aguilera Its surprising that Topps gave him a card in the 2001 set.  He was 0-1 with an ERA of 4.91 in 54 games for the 2000 Cubs.  He became a free agent after the season and the Cubs had no interest in resigning him.  In fact, no team signed him and his career was done.

2010s: 2016 Topps Now #220 Ben Zobrist  I had forgotten that Zobrist was the NL's starting second baseman in 2016.  He went 0-2.

  1. I bet all the Rick Aguilera super collectors were appreciative of Topps for giving him a "sunset" card. No? LOL
