Designs were used from fifteen different years. Here's how the years were broken down:
1954 - 7 cards
1956 - 8 cards
1961 - 4 cards
1962 - 5 cards
1963 - 4 cards
1964 - 4 cards
1965 - 6 cards
1971 - 7 cards
1972 - 6 cards
1977 - 5 cards
1982 - 6 cards
1984 - 4 cards
1987 - 4 cards
1990 - 6 cards
1996 - 6 cards
For the most part, they stayed away from using a design from a year that the player had an original card with Topps. There were four exceptions, and below are the original card on the left and the 2013 Cubs Archives card on the right

I get excited when Archive-y cards have a photo that is the same vintage as the design, but that Jose Cardenal card could be from the same photo shoot! Awesome stuff!
