2010 Topps Series 2 Cubs

My Series 2 Cubs have arrived!

There were 11 cards plus the Ernie Banks SP variation card.

The franchise history card has a nice look at the Wrigley Field scoreboard.

But there is a mistake on the back. The card stays the Cubs inaugural season was 1878. The correct year should be 1876, which is the year the National League was founded. The Cubs are the only original franchise to operate in the same city for the entire run of the league. I wonder who edits the cards and let that mistake slip through. And will Topps correct it?

Here's the Ernie Banks card, with a nice look at Ernie making a play at shortstop.

This card of Marlon Byrd is photoshopped. Two clues: The helmet is a style the Cubs don't wear, and the lettering on the back of the uniform is wrong. The Cubs have red letters with white trim; the card has the opposite.

Mike Fontenot making the tag at second. He may end up the regular second baseman if he keep hitting.

Kosuke Fukudome, running in to grab a flyball.

Carlos Marmol, who has been lights out as closer. Right now, he is average two strikeouts per inning.

Aramis Ramirez, by far, the most disappointing player on the team this season.

James Russell, the token rookie card in the set.

Alfonso Soriano, taking a hack

Geovany Soto, having a decent season after the sophomore jink killed him last year.

Randy Wells, doing ok in the rotation

Carlos Zambrano, the bullpen experiment is over and he returns to the rotation tonight.

  1. I'm waiting for my Yankees series 2 to arrive. I can't believe there are no Yankees in the 2020 insert set though. Bummer not to have one Yankee in one of Topps cooler inserts.

  2. The Byrd card also has the Texas flag patch on the sleeve. At first I thought the card looked like it was painted.
