State of the Collection: Looking Back

A year ago I set some goals for myself and today is as good a day as any to see how I did:

Goal #1: Keep Getting New Stuff
This one was an easy one to take care of. I picked up all of the Cubs from Topps, Heritage, Allen and Ginter, T206, Bowman, Topps Debut, and Chrome. I even got Upper Deck's cards, even though I wasn't sure I would. With inserts and everything else, I added a total of 271 cards from 2010.

Goal #2: Add more oddball sets.
This was the one I enjoyed the most. I am amazed at all of the different sets that I am finding. This year I added cards from Hygrade, Ted Williams, Swell, Fritsch, Play Ball, Sports Design Products, and Tip Top Bread. My Oddball Binder is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Goal #3: Putting the Topps complete sets from 1986 - 2010 into binders.
I had this goal done by the spring!

Goal #4: Finish a couple of complete sets, Topps Chrome 1996 and Turkey Red 2005
I went one for two with this one. The Chrome set was finished, but the Turkey Red hasn't been touched.

Goal #5: Enjoy what I've got and share it with you.
Done and Done!

As the year went on, I gave myself a couple other goals, to add more relics from Cubs players of the 70s and 80s, and add all the early Bowman Cubs. The relics are an on-going thing; the Bowman goal is done.

Overall, I'm pleased at how I did. Tomorrow, I'll look ahead to 2011 and set some new goals.

  1. It's great to see someone at least stuck to their goals. I don't know why I even bothered. I'm good with the planning but not so good with execution.
