Comparing the Main Brands - 1983

We're up to the third year with three card companies.  Fleer has added their brand name to the front of the card, something that Topps and Donruss did the previous two seasons.

Manager cards returned after none of the brands had one in 1982.  Topps and Donruss have them, but at this point, Fleer never did them.

Ryne Sandberg has a card in all three sets, his first cards in any of the three.  The Topps card is the one that has the most interest among collectors and is the most expensive of the three.

Year - 1983

Main Brands -  Topps, Donruss, Fleer

Number of Players Included Among All the Sets: 29

Players Included in Every Set: 20

  1. Topps and Fleer were much improved - Obviously Topps is the best but the look of the cards for 3 were improving - though Donruss was probably the most consistent the the first 3 years (81-83)

Forgot 1983 Cubs set had Hernandez, Smith, Jenkins - Cy Youngs and HOF

Dick Tidrow probably had the best looking cards

  2. 1983 Donruss was the first main base or "flagship" set I bought full. I had bought sets of 100 cards or less and traded sets before but not a main set. I discovered some years later about some of the variants and corrected error cards that I still need.
