A Look Back At the Bowman Top 100

I thought I'd take a look back at the Cubs prospects that were part of the Bowman Top 100 five years ago and see how they did.  The 2018 version included just two Cubs.  Not only were there just two, but both were ranked in the 80s.  That shows you how the Cubs system had been depleted by mid-season trades the previous few seasons.

Adbert (not Robert as on the card) Alzolay was #86 in 2018 and pitching for the Cubs in 2019. That means either the ranking was way off or the Cubs were desperate for pitching.  Over the past four+ seasons he had put compiled a record of 10-18 with an  ERA of 4.28.  That's not very good.  He was mostly a starter his first three seasons, but since 2022 has worked exclusively out of the bullpen.  It looks like he'll remain in the bullpen.

Bowman pegged Victor Caratini into the #83.  Caratini actually had been in 31 games for the Cubs in 2017, so to seem in on the list at all is a bit puzzling.  He ended up as Yu Darvish's personal catcher and when Darvish went to the Padres, Caratini went too.  He was with the Padres for just the 2021 season and has been with the Brewers since then.
