Comparing the Main Brands - 1988

 Year - 1988

Main Brands -  Topps, Donruss, Fleer, and Score

Number of Players Included Among All the Sets: 35

Players Included in Every Set: 20

We have a newcomer to the list in 1988, Score.  The initial set of Score had 660 cards, in line with what the others put out.  Score had one big miss with their set.  They were the only company of the four to not issue a card of a Cub rookie pitcher named Greg Maddux.  Donruss and Fleer were the only to have cards for another rookie, Mark Grace.

  2. I thought 1988 Topps was junk wax until I discovered the Blogs and read 88 Topps in 2008 - It gave me a whole different perspective on this set.

I still think 1988 Donruss is the King of the Junk Wax but night owl had an interesting column recently on it.

Score's backs were great but fronts ugh! - Still can't stand Andre Dawson's card

1988 Fleer was slightly better than 1987, 1989 and 1990. Fleer - Fleer probably had the best (clearest photo's on the front.)

1988 Topps edges Fleer (because of the 88 Topps Blog)

Best Card probably Fleer Rowdon - Topps Lynch and Fleer Sandberg is up there.
