Matt Mervis Follows the Rules, But...

...I don't have his autograph card in my collection yet.  With the Cubs since May 5, he has played in 14 games and has batting average is .235 with two home runs.  It's a small sampling size, but those numbers are not overly impressive.

If you want to see some impressive numbers, look at the prices for his autograph cards.  Below are the prices of past 50 sales of his auto cards as of Tuesday morning.  And this excludes some pricey best offer sales since eBay doesn't show the actual sold price.  After taking a look, you can see why I haven't picked up one of those yet.

The average price is $196.68.  That is waaaay outside of my budget, especially for a guy with a .235 average.

  1. I had the same shock when I went to look at his autographs. You can buy Hall of Fame autographs for a less than his. Crazy!

  2. Insane. I wonder what's going on. I could understand if there were very few of his autos out there, but clearly that's not the case. He's a highly regarded prospect but not one of the top rated in baseball. I don't understand at all. Hopefully the market will correct at some point.

  3. I think he might be a good player but not the next Ron Santo
