The 48th and Final 2023 Cub

One nice thing about being in Germany at the end of September is that I was too far away to follow closely the Cubs epic September collapse.  I saw them beat the Giants on September 7.  The completed a San Francisco sweep and things were looking good.

But after that game, the worst record in the National League belonged to the Cubs.  They finished the season with a 7-15 run.  Ouch!

Pitcher Tyler Duffey was called up from Iowa for the last series in Milwaukee and he pitched two innings in the final game of the season.  That makes him the 48th and final player to take the field as a Cub in 2023.

It's been a while since the Cubs used so few players.  After a record-setting 69 in 2021 and 64 last year, using just 48 should be seen as a good thing.  In fact, excluding the covid-shortened 2020 season, the last time the Cubs used this few players was in 2017, when 47 suited up.

The addition of Duffey means I can end the season with a nice 6x8 mosaic of the 2023 Cubs.
