Here is another oddball team issued set.
This one was put out by the Cubs as a part of their monthly magazine Vineline. There were four panels of nine cards. The panels came with the magazine and were to be punched out into the standard card size.
The complete set of 36 cards was also available by mail. My set is the mail in version. I also got the envelope the cards came in.
My cards are still in the complete panels. I'm undecided about punching them out into the standard card size. I'm leaning towards keeping the panels. Anyone else care to offer an opinion??
One neat feature about the set is that there are four hall of fame players in it. Among the active Cubs in 1991, there were three hall of famers. Ryne Sandberg is in, Andre Dawson will be in this summer, and Greg Maddux will go as soon as he is eligible. All three cards are on the first panel
The fourth hall of famer is Fergie Jenkins. He was elected into the hall in 1991, so the Cubs included a tribute card for him.
Here are the panels. Enjoy!
Panel One: Paul Assenmacher, Mark Grace, Mike Harkey, Danny Jackson, Andre Dawson, Greg Maddux, Ryne Sandberg, Shawn Boskie, and Rick Sutcliffe.
Panel Two: Doug Dascenzo, Chico Walker, Gary Scott, Dwight Smith, Damon Berryhill, Heathcliff Slocumb, George Bell, Mike Bielecki, and Erik Pappas
Panel Three: Les Lancaster, Jerome Walton, Hector Villanueva, Shawon Dunston, Jose Vizcaino, Luis Salazar, Joe Girardi, Chuck McElroy, and Dave Smith.
Panel Four: Steve Wilson, Chuck Cottier, Phil Roof, Don Zimmer, Jose Martinez, Fergie Jenkins, Joe Altobelli, Dick Pole, and the teams three MVPs.
