Meet the 2010 Cubs: Pitchers

I'm not sure what to make of this group. Zambrano, Dempster,Lilly, and Randy Wells head the rotation, though Lilly is injured and will be out for a while. Gorzelanny and especially Silva scare me at the bottom.

In the bullpen, Carlos Marmol will be the closer. He, too, is scary. He's scary good if he can throw strikes, otherwise, he's just scary.
The rest of the bullpen is full of question marks, too. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Carlos Zambrano
, who promises he will be better this year.

Ryan Dempster,
steady as always

Ted Lilly
, our lone All-Star last year, out for a while after surgery over the winter. Get back soon!

Randy Wells
, a pleasant surprise last year, he needs to show that 2009 wasn’t a fluke.

Tom Gorzelanny
, like me, a south side boy, was OK after coming over from the Cubs other AAA team, the Pirates

Carlos Silva, came to the Cubs from the Mariners as the two teams swapped their trash, with Milton Bradley going to Seattle. I’ve got very low expectations, so there’s nowhere to go for Silva but up.

Carlos Marmol,
now the closer, and will be great if he throws strikes
.

Justin Berg
, a rookie, an unknown. We shall see.

John Grabow
, another ex-Pirate.

Sean Marshall,
will work out of the pen or get an occasional start.

Jeff Samardzija
, could get some starts if Silva flops

James Russell
, a real spring surprise, a non-roster invitee making the team. He is the son of former Rangers closer Jeff Russell

Esmailin Caridad
, had some really good outings at the end of the season last year. I’d love to see him make it as the 8th inning guy.
