Meet the 2010 Cubs: The Position Players

Opening Day for the Cubs is tomorrow. For once, the schedule makers let them open the season in a warm weather city, Atlanta.

With the roster now set, let's take a look at the team. I'll start with the position players and then I'll add the bench in a couple hours and finish with the pitchers.

Of the 25 players, five are new to the Cubs. For them, I had to make a card. Otherwise, I'll use cards from my collection

The position players are all veterans, with most having spent several seasons with the Cubs. My hope is that these guys don't all start to fade at the same time.

Third Base: Aramis Ramirez
I hope he stays healthy the entire season. He is the offensive player the team can least afford to lose.

Shortstop: Ryan Theriot, Just keeping the spot warm until Starlin Castro is ready.

Second Base: Mike Fontenot: Just keeping the spot warm until Ryan Theriot gets moved out of shortstop.

First Base: Derrek Lee Lee started out slowly last season, and people starting saying he was done. A strong second half proved them wrong. This year, D Lee needs to put together a strong full season

Catcher: Geovany Soto The sophomore jinks and 40 extra pounds sunk his season. A slim and trim Soto is ready to recapture his rookie of the year form.

Left Field: Alfonso Soriano Lots of ifs with him that are costing the team millions of dollars. Its time for Soriano to earn his pay!

Center Field: Marlon Byrd He is the one newcomer to the lineup, and the hope is that he is not Milton Bradley II.

Right Field: Kosuke Fukudome Ditto for Fukudome with what I said about Soriano
