Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 13,672 Cubs cards from 105 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1971 Dell Today Joe Pepitone  Two weeks in a row the RNG has given us a card from the Dell Today set.  Pepitone came to the Cubs during the '70 season.  The Cubs picked him up on waivers from the Astros.  It looks like the Dell pictures were taken at spring training in 1970, so we are stuck with Pepi as an Astro

1980s: 1989 Fleer Glossy #432 Jamie Moyer  Moyer never played for the '89 Cubs.  He had been traded to the Rangers the previous winter in the Mitch Williams / Rafael Palmiero deal.

1990s: 1992 Fleer Lumber #L4 Ryne Sandberg  Ryon did bring out the lumber in 1992, smashing 26 homers, good for sixth in the league

2000s: 2009 Topps Chrome #19 Rich Harden Harden was just a .500 pitcher in 2009, going 9-9 with and ERA of 4.09.

2010s: 2013 Heritage Baseball Flashback #EB Ernie Banks  The card references a game in September, 1964 (see the Tribune article on the game here), when the Cubs scored 8 runs in the second inning against the Cardinals.  Ernie led off the frame with a home run and later added a two run double.  The Cubs won the game 8-5.  However, the game was in St. Louis, while the card shows Ernie in his home uniform.

  1. Rich Harden looked like he was going to be really good but couldn't seem to stay healthy. Nice photo.
