Flippin' My Lid For Billy

I picked up another oddball for the Billy Williams collection.

Again, its not an actual baseball card, though it is a Topps product.

And thankfully, its the real deal.  I did my homework. No more reprints for me.

This is the 1973 Topps Baseball Stars lid. The bottom picture is what the top of the lids look like and the player was underneath.

When you bought the gum you didn't know which player you were going to get.

The pictures of the players are all missing logos.  That means Topps had a license with the players association but not MLB.  Yet Topps had an MLB license for baseball cards.  One source I've read attributed the lack of logos to the 1973 re-negotiation of the MLB Basic Agreement between the players and the owners.

Two things I can identify from Billy's picture:

• The picture was taken in 1972, the only year the road uniform had red, white, and blue on the neck
• The light tower in the background looks like Shea.

This pickup puts my Billy PC at 62% of the PSA master list.
