The Original Wrigley Field Set

One of the insert sets in Topps 2016 is called "Wrigley Field Celebrates 100 Years."  The title is kinda goofy.  The 100th birthday of the ballpark was two years ago. The name and the set would have made more sense in 2014.  But Topps being Topps doesn't always make sense.  A better name for an insert in the 2016 set would have been "The Cubs Celebrate 100 Years at Wrigley Field."

The set has 25 cards and should be a celebration of 100 years of Cubs baseball at the corner of Clark and Addison.  But again, Topps was being Topps.  We get several cards of recent Cubs players and events, like Bryant, Rizzo, Schwarber, and even the mascot Clark.  I know the Cubs haven't been a powerhouse, but you'd think they'd be able to come up with a stronger checklist.

I do have the set included in my order with Brentandbecca and I'll show the cards when they arrive.  In the meantime, let's look at a set the Cubs created back in 1999.  They came up with the top ten Wrigley Field moments.  I'll be curious to see how many of these are in the Topps set.

  4. I may have to find a set if only for the Lou Boudreau cameo on the Pappas card.
