70s Saturday - 1974 Topps Cubs

The 1974 Cubs were a very bad team.  They finished in last place, 22 games behind the leader and 30 games under .500.  They changed managers in late July and did worse under the new skipper.  As you scroll through the cards, you'll understand why.

  1. All my friends liked the Cincinnati Reds, and it is not hard to see why. The Cubs lacked superstars, and the good cubs for the most part were over the hill. The Cubs were not strong up the middle, their pitching was mediocre. Rick Rueschel was the best. Bonham, Burris, Pappas was not. The Cubs could never draft talent except from the Dallas Green and early in the Epstein era. The bad thing was, the Cubs sucked, lost and even with the high picks, could not draft talent.
