I feel fortunate to have some very generous readers. Topping the list is Chad, who had been sending me a box of Cubs cards each year for the past eight years. It's usually a collection of lesser known sets, often sets that I've not been aware of.
He's done it again this year. Items in the box include complete Cubs team sets from:
1988 Starting Lineup
- 1993 Metz Bakery
- 1993 Topps / Coke Commanders of the Hill
- 1995 Leaf Limited
- 1995 Sportflix UC3
- 1996 Fleer Circa
- 1996 Fleer Emotion
- 1997 Pinnacel Certified
- 1999 Fleer Brilliants
- 2001 Topps Home Team Advantage
- 2001 Fleer Futures
- 2003 Fleer Hardball
In addition to the team sets, there were assorted singles from Starting Lineup, Donruss Team Heroes, Topps All-Time Record Holder, Callihan, and MCI.
I plan to show the cards in several posts over the next few weeks.
I'll kick things off today with the oldest.
This card of Joe Tinker comes from the Callihan Hall of Fame set. Chicago-based B.E. Callahan produced the set from 1950 through 1956 and sold the set at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. The 1950 set has a card for each inducted member of the hall. Additional cards were made in the following years and new players were elected.
The TCDB lists four other cards from the set as Cubs cards. I think I'll be making a slow and stead chase of those.
Did you forget to add the card of Tinker?
