Sweet Emotion! 1996 Emotion Cubs

... more goodies from reader Chad.

There are 300 cards in Skybox's 1996 release E-Motion XL.  The cards are pretty fancy and the border is like a raised matte frame around the picture.  The frames come in three colors, green red, and blue, though there is just one color per player.  There also isn't any specific reason for the colors used for the players.  The blue frames look really nice on the Cubs cards.  Too bad they didn't try to match the frame to the team colors.

Each card also had written an emotion for each player.  Well, is use the word emotion hesitantly.  The words used are more like adjectives than emotions.  But a set called "Adjectives" would probably not sell very well.

Chad sent me all ten Cubs in the set.

  1. I got a good chunk of this set when I bought out a dime box a couple years ago. It's certainly unusual with the raised frame and all. Not bad. But you're right that the "Emotions" theme doesn't really worth. (Even "adjectives"--"effort" is a noun!)

  2. Great set. I wonder if it was the first set of cards utilizing the matte frames.
