Alec Mills Follows the Autograph Rules

I've added another card to my autograph collection.

This card of Cubs pitcher Alec Mills comes from 2021 Immaculate Collection.  It's logoless and its a sticker. The signature is a real mess too, but it follows my collection rules.

By my count there have been 144 different Cubs players that have had a certified autograph card issued in a year that they played for the Cubs, showing them as a Cub.  I've got at least one autographed card of all 144.

  1. When I got autographs back in the 70's, you could read them. What the heck happened? I don't want a scribble that I can't read. I understand why you get them on baseball cards where you have a picture and printed writing so you can tell whose it is. That is just lazy. I was so thrilled to get Jose Cardenal's autograph when he was on the St. Louis Cardinals, and he told me I was dumb because I had a Cub helmet on........and he ended up having his most success with the Cubbies. He was an exciting player.

    1. On the subject of 'scribble-graphs' here's a great article on Harmon Killebrew teaching Torii Hunter why a clear signature is important: https://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/29/sports/baseball/in-an-era-of-squiggles-you-cant-tell-baseball-the-players-without-a-handwriting-analyst.html

    2. Killebrew was a stickler for readable autographs. Coomer has told a story on air about Killebrew over his shoulder and then being happy to see that it's a readable signature.

  2. I always smile when I see a Panini card of a "Chicago" player coupled with your "showing them as a Cub" line. He's wearing a blue t-shirt and baseball cap :)
