We finish up our look at the 2022 Pro Debut Cubs prospects shown with the AA and AAA teams. This also gives me the chance to give my annual Pro Debut rant - how can a set call itself Pro Debut when a majority of the players are well past their pro debut. Best case in point - this is the fourth year that Brennen Davis has a Pro Debut card.
Name: Nelson Velazquez
Acquired: Drafted by Cubs, 2017, 5th Round
2022 Team(s) Tennessee (AA), Iowa (AAA), Cubs
Stats: Minor League - 56 games, .241, 15 HR, 32 RBI
With Cubs - 77 games, .205, 6 HR, 26 RBI
He is the only one of the twelve Pro Debut Cubs that made the jump to the big leagues.
Name: Brennen Davis
Acquired: Drafted by Cubs, 2018, 2nd Round
2022 Team(s) Arizona Rookie League, South Bend (High A), Iowa (AAA)
Stats: 53 games, .180, 5 HR 17 RBI
The Cubs top prospect had a major setback in 2022. He was hitting just .192, due to back issues. He had surgery in early June. He did a little rehab work with South Bend and is now playing in the Arizona Fall League.
