I've got 20,750 Cubs cards from 305 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.
1900s - 1970s: 1979 Topps #614 Willie Hernandez Here's my Willie Hernandez story from 1979: I went to the Cubs game on May 17, 1979. It was the 23-22 loss to the Phillies. We got to the ballpark early and were waiting in line for the bleachers to open. I see a big Cadillac go down Waveland and I recognized the driver. It was Willie Hernandez. He should have stayed home. In 2 2/3 innings of work he was roughed up for eight runs.
1980s: 1985 Rub Downs Rich Sutcliffe I never noticed the little "Printed in Italy" on the sheet. Panini??
1990s: 1990 Fleer #36 Vance Law I like the simple design of the 1990 Fleer set. It's nothing flashy but it isn't totally boring either, with the wrapped border on the bottom.2000s: 2003 MVP Update #242 Alex Gonzalez He was no MVP in my book. Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS should not be called the Bartman Game. It should be called the Gonzalez game, because it was his booting of a potential double play that cost the Cubs the game.
