2022 Topps Update Cubs - Already Out of Date

I now have my 2022 Topps Update Cubs set.  There are 13 Cubs cards among the 330 cards in the set.  They represent 12 players, as Seiya Suzuki has three cards but there are two players on a rookie combo card.

However the update set is already out of date, at least as far as the Cubs are concerned.  Only four of the twelve are still with the team.  That gives you a good indication as to how fast the revolving door on the Cubs' clubhouse is spinning.

These are the four players still with the team.

The eight that are gone are:

Clint Frazier was DFA'ed in June and ended up with the Cubs AAA team the rest of the season.  He became a free agent on October 6

Michael Givens was traded to the Mets on August 2.

Daniel Norris was released on July 22.

The Cubs released Andrelton SImmons on August 7.

Drew Smyly elected free agency on November 9.

Jonathan Villar was released on June 28.

Never on the 40-man roster, Trent Giambrone spent the year in AAA and elected free agency after the season.  Scott Effross was traded to the Yankees on August 1.

On the bright side, none of the pictures show the ugly city connect uniforms, so Update got something right.

  1. For me the worst thing about all the city connect uniforms in 2022 Topps is you don't even know what team you're looking at when shuffling through cards.

  2. Didn't update Frazier's name change from Clint to Jackson
