eBay has had their own mailing option for those selling cards for almost two years, the eBay Standard Envelope. It allows the seller to get tracking using a plain white envelope. It's an inexpensive option that gives some peace of mind to both the seller and the buyer.
But does it?
Take a look at the tracking of a few items I purchased in the last month.
Both of these show that they are in transit and the arrival date is well past.
And yet, there they are, the four cards. Both envelopes arrived within a week of when they were shipped. I track all of my packages and I've never had a package with USPS tracking be delivered while the tracking still shows its on the way. I can't say that for the eBay tracking. These two aren't the only ones I've had get delivered but show as not delivered in the system.
The good news is at least I have the cards. The bad news could be for the seller if the buyer is not an honest person. I assume that a buyer could file an "Item not Received" issued with eBay. eBay wouldn't have a choice but to refund the buyer and then the buyer ends up with a free card.
Have any of you out there who sell on eBay run into this, where you have to refund a seller for an undelivered item?
One more tracking - check out the estimated delivery date for the item.
They've estimated that it will take almost seven weeks to go from Kansas City to southern Michigan. Is it coming by stagecoach?
Guess they're giving customers outrageous estimates... so they'll be happy when the merchandise arrives early.
