The 39th player for the 2023 Cubs made his first appearance one week ago. First baseman Jared Young was called up on Tuesday June 27, and got into the game on the following day.
I don't usually use pictures that show so little of a player's face, but I made an exception here. This picture is Young's swing that launched his first career home run, which he hit on Wednesday. That is a card-worthy event. Plus if you want to see his face, just take a look in the bottom left corner!
Young was one of just two players making their 2023 debut in June. It seems like the roster is much more stable than it was two seasons ago, when 69 different players took the field over the course of the season. That's progress, I suppose.
I absolutely love your photo selection for Young's card. Well done.
ReplyDeleteOnly 39 players suiting up at this point in the season is a big improvement over last, but we're only a couple of injuries and a trade deadline sell-off from being in the 50s again. Hopefully neither happen!
If they are called up to the 26 man roster and don't play in a game and get sent back down do you include them in your Cub count?
ReplyDeleteNo, the have to get into a game to count.
