On The Katy Trail - Sedalia, Missouri

Yesterday's 36-mile ride along the Katy Trail started in Clinton, Missouri, brought us to Sedalia.  There are four players that were from this town of just 21,000 people.  Chance are, though, that you've never heard of any of them.

Pitcher Allen Conkwright made five appearances for the 1920 Detroit Tigers.

Roy Vaughn took the mound for two games for the 1934 Philadelphia A's.

Bud Thomas played in 14 games for the 1950 St. Louis Browns.

Pitcher Al Orth had the most significant career of any of the major league Sedalians.  His career spanned 15 seasons and he ended up with 204 wins.  He led the American League in wins with 27 for the 1906 Yankees.

  1. I've always wondered what your bike set-ups looked like. Thanks for the picture!

  2. Stayed in Sedalia often (from Texas) when working at nearby Whiteman AFB. Nice little town with a sweet old wooden bleacher ballpark Liberty Park (1936).

    2. It looks like they have installed artificial turf in the infield but kept grass in the outfield, like White Sox Park in the early 70's
