Year - 1995
Main Brands - Topps, Donruss, Fleer, Pacific, Score, Upper Deck
Number of Players Included Among All the Sets: 34
Players Included in Every Set: 7
Did you hear that loud pop? That was the baseball card bubble bursting. The 1994 strike by the players wiped out the last third of the season and the World Series. Baseball cards were a casualty, too, as most of the brands cut back their checklists in 1995. Donruss, Score, and Upper Deck put out their smallest sets to date. The Topps set was 132 cards shorter than in 1994.
Smaller sets means fewer players included, obviously. And with six brands, the number of Cubs in all six really took a nosedive. Just seven players were included in all six.
Kudos to Upper Deck, as they were the only brand with a 1995 card for Ryne Sandberg, as he had abruptly retired during the 1994 season.
Not a solid year in regards to baseball card designs, but it's good to see that Pacific still had some solid action shots on their cards.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Fuji - but the Score rookie card designs are an eyecatcher when viewed from the panel
