Where Are the Rub-Offs?

Yesterday I took a look at the 1966 Topps Cubs set.  Since I'm still waiting for my Heritage order, I'm going to take a look today at the 1966 inserts.

The 1966 set included just one insert, the rub-offs. The set was made up of 100 players plus a team pennant for each of the 20 teams.  They were colorful and I'm sure a hit with the kids.

Sadly, Topps is not making rub-offs for the Heritage set.  They made all sorts of other inserts, relics, manu-patches, autographs, stamps, and coins.  But no rub-offs.

Boo.

Maybe I'll make some fake rub-offs since Topps didn't.  Stay tuned.

In the mean time, you can still enjoy the original 1966 Cubs rub-offs.

  1. Topps probably decided that re-creating the rub-offs would be too expensive? I have no idea what the process was for making them in 66, and I don't know what the temporary tattoo production costs are today... I will say that the old 1966 Rub-offs look pretty cool. A missed opportunity, for sure!
