1990 Starline Long John Silver Cubs

Last week I showed the 1989 Starline prototypes.  They put cards together for several potential customers.  None of them signed on.  Instead it was Long John Silver that partnered with Starline.

The set includes 40 cards and there are three Cubs cards, all of Mark Grace.

The three pictures used are different from the one on the prototype.  That's nice that Starline didn't do any repeating.

You don't often see the same player with multiple cards in such a small set.  And Grace isn't the only player to get the multiple player treatment.  The 40-card set includes just 18 players.  Every one has at least two cards with Grace, Wade Boggs, Don Mattingly, and Mark McGwire getting three.

Another oddity is that the card design is the base prototype.  Starline didn't customize the look for Long John Silver.

As far as I'm aware, this set is the one and only baseball card set produced by Starline.
