Five Random Cubs Cards
I've got 16,074 Cubs cards from 135 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.
1900s - 1970s: 1973 Topps #565 Jim Hickman Age finally caught up with the 36-year-old Hickman in 1973. His average, home runs, RBIs, and games played all plummeted.
1980s: 1988 Fleer Baseball's Hottest Stars #9 Andre Dawson Coming off his 1987 MVP, Dawson was one of baseball's hottest stars.
1990s: 1995 Upper Deck #248 Ozzie Timmons There was an Ozzie on the North Side in the 90's too. He wasn't nearly as obnoxious as the South Side Ozzie.
2000s: 2005 Donruss Champions #255 Ernie Banks There is so much empty space on this card. Shouldn't there be something on the right side?
2010s: 2011 Pro Debut All-Stars #12 Hak-Ju Lee An All-Star in 2010, the Cubs sold high on Lee as he was one of the prospects that they sent to Tampa, bringing Matt Garza to Chicago. Lee never made it to the majors.
1900s - 1970s: 1973 Topps #565 Jim Hickman Age finally caught up with the 36-year-old Hickman in 1973. His average, home runs, RBIs, and games played all plummeted.

Hey, a player in a P-town Chiefs uniform! Woo-Hoo!
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question about the Banks card, there is on some versions, which are jersey cards on some of those Donruss Champions. I don't know if all of them have jersey versions, but I have a John Smoltz from that set and the jersey is on the right side.
