Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 18,606 Cubs cards from 259 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1979 Hostess #27 Bill Buckner The Hostess cards were made by Topps and I've found I often that the pictures on the Hostess cards looked better than the ones in the Topps set.

This is definitely true for Buckner in 1979.

1980s: 1985 Donruss #564 Richie Hebner  The 1985 season was Hebner's last.  He hit just .217 after hitting .333 the previous season.  Time finally caught up with him.

1990s: 1996 Pacific #28 Frank Castillo  The Pacific logo should have been put in the other corner.  It looks like he's throwing a crown, not a baseball.

2000s: 2001 King B League Legends #7 Ernie Banks  Logoless Ernie would look much better with something on his hat,

like maybe, that King B logo in a ball.

2010s: 2016 Heritage Award Winners #6 Kris Bryant ROY  Seems like a long time ago since Bryant was winning awards.

  1. 70's Hostess rule. The Banks is cool too. For some reason, I've learned to accept logoless oddball issues from the 70's, 80's, and 90's... but haven't for modern day Panini.

  2. I actually like the '79 Topps Buckner better, the Hostess shot seems to have captured him in mid-sentence.
