Series Two Inserts...

....or should I say the Anthony and Ernie show.

Cubs were included in six of the insert card sets...and five of the six were either Anthony Rizzo or Ernie Banks.

First, three different Rizzo inserts...

Chasing History...he set a team rookie record for homers in July...not exactly a historic moment, but Topps likes to bend things a little to include the players they want to include.

Making Their Mark, First Home Run...this makes more sense that Rizzo was included.

WBC, the Flordia native played for Italy in the WBC

Mr. Cub showed up twice...

The 1972 mini set...

...and in "The Elite."  Notice how the card lists him as a shortstop, which is fine.  But the write-up on the back describes how Ernie became the first black manager in MLB history when he skippered the team for a couple innings on May 8, 1973.  Ernie was the team's first base coach, and when manager Whitey Lockman was ejected, Ernie led the team for the games final two innings.  Does anyone else see the irony of the first black manager taking over for "Whitey"?

Finally, insert number six isn't Rizzo or Banks, its my favorite player, Billy Williams...

in the Rookie of the Year set....in my now least-favorite picture of Billy at the Polo Grounds.

We're up to ten and counting...with a Gypsy Queen Autograph waiting to be redeemed.
