Five Random Cubs Cards

I've got 17,582 Cubs cards from 207 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.

1900s - 1970s: 1963 Topps #399 Dick Ellsworth You are looking at the 1963 NL Comeback Player of the Year.  Ellsworth went from 9-20 in 1962 to 22-10 in 1963.  Quite a turnaround!  He also lowered him ERA from 5.08 to 2.10.  He was also the first Cub to win 20 games in over 40 years.

1980s: 1989 Topps Stickers #5 Andre Dawson  Dawson always looked pretty angry when he took a swing.

1990s: 1991 Fleer Ultra #60 Joe Girardi  We're assuming that Girardi is holding the ball in his had to show the ump that he made the play.  The Fleer Ultra logo is in a bad spot!

2000s: 2007 Bowman Prospects #BP-6 Jeremy Papelbon Another Cub prospect that didn't pan out.  He had one game in AAA ball.  but otherwise peaked in AA.

2010s: 2016 Gypsy Queen Mini #257 Javier Baez  No logo is hiding this ball!  It is right there coming off of his bat!

  1. Nah, think Javy is swinging right under that ball, Strike Three!

  2. Papelbon could make the all-forgotten brother team with Ozzie Canseco, Jeremy Giambi, Larry Yount...and lots of guys I've actually forgotten (or never heard of at all).

  3. Would Paul Reuschel, Eric Patterson, Billy Ripken (minus the '89 Fleer) and Tommy Aaron make the cut, as well?
