In the early '80 Topps put out a gum called "Thirst Break."
It looks like they came up with a chewy version of Gatorade.
The orange and green look Gatorade-like.
Topp's bubble gum, Bazooka, had the Bazooka Joe comics. Topps decided to do the same with Thirst Break, and produced a set of 56 different comics in 1981. Instead of Thirst Break Joe, these comics each featured a sports figure and some sports fact related to the player. They covered a variety of sports, not just baseball. Twenty of the 56 are baseball-themed.
Of the twenty baseball comics, just one was a Cub.
Billy Williams' consecutive games streak got a comic. The picture looks nothing like him, but at least he got included.
Your Billy collection never ceases to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the "Quench" gum that came out around the same time.
