Five Random Cubs Cards
I've got 16,769 Cubs cards from 198 different brands listed on a spreadsheet. A random number generator picked five cards, one each from the past several decades.
1900s - 1970s: 1969 Jewel Jim Hickman Look how empty things look behind him. No expanded bleachers, rooftop seats, video board, not even the basket on the wall. Simpler times in 1969.
1980s: 1980 TCMA All TIme Cubs #1 Billy Williams Billy was one of three of the '69 Cubs that TCMA included on the All Time Team, Banks and Santo were also members.
1990s: 1992 Topps Kids #5 Shawon Dunston It is appropriate for Dunston to be included in the Topps Kids set since he always played with a kid-like enthusiasm.
2000s: 2002 Leaf Rookie Stars #255 Ryne Sandberg I'm confused. The card is from a set called Leaf Rookie Stars, but the card recognizes his 1984 MVP.. That came in his third season, not his rookie year.
2010s: 2018 Topps #496 Jen-Ho Tseng A week ago the Cubs gave Jen-Ho the 'ol Heave-Ho. He was released and was just picked up by the Rangers.

Wasn't Tseng a two-time Cubs "Minor League Pitcher of the Year"? Bummer that he didn't work out.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen those 1980 TCMA All-Time Cubs before. They look nice.
ReplyDeleteThe Sandberg card is from a set called "Rookies & Stars" the '&' gives them leeway to use him from 1984. I have some Walter Payton cards from the same name for football and had to learn that set trait. Basically it's a direct way to say "base set included rookies and stars" like everything else does.
